I'm an Aries, but I tend to find myself at odds with the generalization given to the sign. I find that the Chinese Zodiac is a little more accurate in my case:
People born in the Year of the Rooster are deep thinkers, capable, and talented. They like to be busy and are devoted beyond their capabilities and are deeply disappointed if they fail. People born in the Rooster Year are often a bit eccentric, and often have rather difficult relationship with others. They always think they are right and usually are! They frequently are loners and though they give the outward impression of being adventurous, they are timid. Rooster people¡¦s emotions like their fortunes, swing very high to very low. They can be selfish and too outspoken, but are always interesting and can be extremely brave. They are most compatible with Ox, Snake, and Dragon.
Eccentric? Just a bit.

I'm on the brink of Cancer, nearly falling into Leo (by about 8 days)! Its interesting how all the *signs* seem to explore every conceivable part of a personality. Its amazing that so much that I read in Cancer really did reflect upon me in one way or another.

I'm a big cusper all around, my sun is 29 degrees Cancer, my ascendent is 3 degrees Sagitarrius, and my moon is 28 degrees Sag. And interestingly enough I dont have anything in Gemini or Taurus.
In the Placidus house system my first house is 10Sag07, second is 15Cap22.
Fire dominated and ruled by Jupiter. I think that covers everything.

the zodiac is not just one sign, its an amalgamation of signs each linked to a planet or concept. The sun sign is the common sign that people talk about, it cycles once per year, and more or less coincides with the months of the year. The moon sign cycles every month, so its specific to the day of the month you were born in. The ascendent cycles every day, it is the specific sign that was on the horizon when you were born, its often called the rising sun.
I listed those three because they are the most important IMO. As for the degrees. Each sign has 30.4 degrees of a circle. The begining of a sign, i.e. june 21 for Cancer, is 0 degrees, the end is 30. And Ive always thought it's interesting that my three major signs are near the cusps.
When I mention the Placidus House system, its an unequal house system, so depening on your latitude, entire signs may be within a house. I like it though, so I always make house references with it.
Houses are the 12 pie shaped divisions on a natal chart. Each one is ascosiated with something. For example the first house is the house htat deals with the Ascendent, predicted behavior, health and your reactions to people around you. I only listed my first two because I didn't want to fill the whole page with my houses.
The 12 signs can be put on a chart defined by the four elements (Fire Earth Air and Water) and the three qualities (Fixed Cardinal and Mutable).
I didn't mention my dominating quality because I think the elements are more interesting, but if you must know its Mutable. Any ways fire is the element for Leo, Saggitarius, and Aries. As well as ruling the first fifth and ninth houses. Fire is commonly asociated with creativity, spontineity, and romance.
Hope that clears some of the gook up for you.

I have a very low opinion of these things since every signs guide you find says different things. The descriptions are so vague that if you really wanted to believe in them you could convince yourself of it too. Still, it seems that at least some people are on a quest to label themsevles or are on a "who am I" phase.
So I guess that means I'll be responding sarcasitically: http://www.wilderdom.com/images/RiskSharpEdgesSign.jpg
I had to do it.
